Directions to the Elkins Depot on Railroad
Avenue - Traveling from
I-79 in West Virginia, take exit 99 to US Rt. 33 towards
Elkins. You will exit at the Downtown Elkins exit from
US 33 east (DO NOT USE the Crystal Springs/Old US 33
exit. The Downtown Elkins exit is much easier). Take
a right turn at the bottom of the exit ramp. Go straight
until you come to a stoplight and you will see the depot
in the near distance. Stay straight at the stoplight.
Traveling from US 219, US 250, or US 33 west from the
western Virginia general area, you will follow these
routes until you arrive in Elkins at the Railroad Avenue
(Go-Mart) stoplight. At this light, turn left. The depot
will be ahead and on the right.
Notes on the Elkins Depot:
*The Rail and Trail Gift Shop is located in the depot.
*The ticket window is located between the information
center and the Rail and Trail Gift Shop inside the
depot.
*Restrooms are located in the depot.
Directions to the
Belington Station - Traveling from I-79, use
exit 99. After exiting, travel east on US Route 33.
Follow US Route 33 for approximately 31 miles to the
Belington/Philippi exit at the stoplight (US Route 250)
and turn left (north). Travel north on US Route 250
for approximately 5 1/2 miles. The parking area will
be on the left directly before the stoplight.
Notes on the Belington Station:
* There are no restroom facilities at the loading
area; however, there are restroom facilities on board
the New Tygart Flyer.
*Gifts can be purchased at the Rail and Trail
Store located in the Elkins Depot during the 40 minute
layover.

Directions to Cheat Bridge
- From Elkins, travel south on US 250. From Huttonsville,
continue on US 250 south for approximately 14 miles.
Once you cross the bridge and the railroad tracks, look
for the first road on the right. Take this gravel road
which is marked with a Cheat Mountain Salamander sign.
Follow this road across the tracks, look to your left
and you will see the loading platform.
If traveling north on US 250, drive approximately
6 miles north of Durbin, WV. A gravel road will be on
your left and is marked with a Cheat Mountain Salamander
sign. If you miss the turn off, cross the railroad tracks
and the bridge. There is a roadway immediately on the
left that you can turn in. The area is wide enough to
turn a large motor coach.
Notes on Cheat Mountain Salamander and boarding
station:
*Guests must walk up steps to board the Cheat Mountain
Salamander.
*Tickets will be distributed from the small station
office at Cheat Bridge.
*Only one restroom (rustic style) is available at
the boarding station. No restrooms are available on
board the Cheat Mountain Salamander. Other restrooms
(rustic style) can be found at the Spruce and High
Falls stops, which are 1 ¼ hours into the trip.
*Snacks, candy, and cold drinks can be purchased on
board the Cheat Mountain Salamander

Directions to Durbin - Arriving from
the north, take US 250 south from Elkins approximately
37 miles and the depot is the yellow and white building
on the right as you proceed through town.
Traveling from the south, Durbin can be reached by
traveling on State Route 92 north from the White Sulphur
Springs exit of I-64.
If traveling from Snowshoe Mountain Resort or from
Cass Scenic Railroad State Park, State Route 92 can
be reached by traveling State Route 66 east. State Route
66 intersects with State Route 92 approximately 6 miles
from the town of Cass, WV.
Restrooms:
There are four restrooms after guests walk across the
track to the depot where people will be boarding. Restrooms
are in the first door waiting area. There are also restrooms
in the second (middle door) waiting area. There is one
restroom facility at the Piney Island destination.
Notes on the Durbin Depot:
*The Durbin and Greenbrier Valley Railroad offices
are across the street from the depot in the Rail
& Trail souvenir store.
*The train seating consist includes an open air covered
coach car, an open observation car, and three covered
cabooses. Guests are welcome to move from car to car
as the ride commences and may sit anywhere they choose.
